Granted, she managed to put herself back together after the events of the first season (crushed by water pressure in a mech that was later recovered during the second season; she returns in season two's first episode), so he probably knew what he was doing.

Yeah, I'm sure that had nothing to do with the power she gave him driving him insane---her being the only person in his life and just leaving him behind to hate himself and feel as though nothing he did was enough. He literally went through hell just entering the city to search for her, this would have been a great pairing if he HADN'T gone bonkers.

It's actually a really good pairing if everything went well, but Mao is a monster of C.C.'s own creation. You can only hope things work out for him in C's world.
