Windwaker graphics were a fine thing, really beautiful, but I think it was the character models that really threw people through a loop, since it was such a big change from Ocarina of Time.
Skyward Sword seems to be giving the series back the color that windwaker brought back ( because people apparently forgot how colorful AlttP was ) while having the models similar to Ocarina of Time that people liked... not that grundgey brown Twilght Princess shit.
My only gripe is the adult Link. is being used again. It was a neat thing in Ocarina of Time, but every other Link hasn't really been older than 12 at the start of their careers, why change the tradition of a young hero just because a gimmick in OoT got popular?

Gimmick? Link was 16 in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, so having an older Link isn't anything new or a gimmick. Though I've never liked referring to him as "adult" Link since even when older, he's still a teen at about 16 or 17, but that's just me.

He may have been 16 in Zelda II, but he was the same kid from the original game. I can understand him aging, though he has been the only one to actually age significanly between games ( since between OoT and MM, Link didn't change that drastically )
But since Adult Link is becoming the new standard, I'm starting to feel annoyed.
And yes, Adult Link was a gimmick in Ocarina of Time. Or rather, the "going through time" thing was. There may have been an older Link in Zelda II, but he was a teen from the start of the game, the gimmick of that game was the side scrolling aspect. Ocarina of Time just popularized the image of this "Adult Link"
...if anything though, I blame Super Smash Bros. for this "Adult is the definitive Link" mindset. Adult Link was featured in SSB instead of Young Link, He was still present in SSBM, and Young Link was made unlockable. We only got a bone tossed to us in the trophy description for young Link telling us that "for some people young Link is the definitive version: He was a young boy in the original Legend of Zelda game" or something like that.

I don't think any one game did anything to that effect, it's just gamers prefer their main characters to be older. Also, with the more adult theme presented in Twilight Princess, the kid Link just wouldn't have worked to me. And it seems they have the same kind of more serious tone happening in Skyward Sword that once again, a child Link wouldn't seem right for.
It has nothing to do with being a gimmick, it more has to do with the kind of tone of the story being used in the particular Zelda game.
I also would say he was a teen in Link to the Past as well if you look at the official art of him for that game too: gallery.zeldalegends.net/displayimage.php?pos=-1415
