Why is New York a hot spot for destruction in the U.S.? LOL, first, all the spider-man villains destroy New York and then the Avengers. Not sure about the Decepticons.

^ Because it's something even international viewers will know. So many movies are set in New York City or Los Angeles because they're well-known places even to foreigners.

I'm sure there are other reasons, but that's likely one of them.
