Anon2, whitewash or eyes fully rolled back is a common way to represent mind control, like empty eyes, and Black Lilith tends to use it. You can keep your boner; they're almost certainly not dead.

It's not real... and in fact it has little to no correspondence to reality. So I wouldn't worry about or even contemplate their "alive" or "dead". Because none of this makes any sense.
