I've watched the first season (the first 26 episodes as of today) of the first show, and it's good. The characters are interesting. You don't have to know much about soccer, much less like soccer to enjoy the show. From the very first time Goenji did Fire Tornado, I was hooked. The matches aren't drawn out too much either. It's a very fast paced and high intensity type show. And the traps don't hurt either.
I'm not a sports fan. The few times I've watched a sports game on tv, it was 90 percent commercials and commentary. I guess they're trying to make the players more than just a number, but I don't care about sports and the players don't really interest me. Inazuma Eleven has interesting characters with their story told both within the games and outside. You get to know them personally, and there is little commentary, mostly limited to simple narration of what is going on.
Just remember that soccer is serious business in Inazuma Eleven. I have no idea why soccer isn't illegal in their world, because it is so much more dangerous.
