Takeshi Shudo in his blog stated that Misty was meant to be Ash closer friend ever, like brother and sister. 4kids rape edits was what made it look like a shipping, specially Misty's good bye.

In Pokémon second movie there was an scene just after Misty saves Ash from drowning in which she gives him first aids, but it was removed of the final version because Shudo thought it was too much and would send the wrong message. That's how close they are.

You can find blog translations in google, he even has the unused plot for the 4th movie before it was turned into Celebii movie (some stuff about dinosaurs lol).

Ir's clearly Game Red seeing as he;s wearing RED CLOTHES. Ken Sugimori's drawings of the anime versions of the characters always use the correct color palette.
