Minato could be considered a douch for the simple fact that he left his infant son with no support system besides a worthless pervert. not to mention he somehow believed that the people of his village would not be like every other ninja village besides the exception of Kumo in their treatment of jinchuriki and not see Naruto as the embodiment of the very monster he holds. Kushina would have been treated the same if her status as the second host was not a secret.

there is also the fact that as the 'master' of the hirashin he could have flashed his wife to the hospital so she might have had a chance to survive the night and take care of Naruto. The truth of the matter was that when given the choice either to save his family or provide a weapon in the form of a jinchuriki, Minato chose the village and willingly sacrificed the lifes of his wife and son
