It's actually current speculation.
I personally think it's true myself.
If you watch the new trailers his left arm just hangs around, and there is a massive gash on his shoulder down.

He actually can't use his left arm when he fights you and he became "Evil" but this picture isn't at the moment you fight him.

Cause he has no shield when you fight him. It's probably a picture of him before all of this

If we're gonna nitpick canon, then he never had two different swords: His Greatsword became cursed after he made the covenant with the Abyss, and then became corrupted when he challenged Manus.
