I am a little confused as to where Kirby disappeared to, but oh well.
I'd just like to point something out: If Sakurai said he has no intentions of making a sequel to uprising, then that doesn't necessarily mean he won't do something else with the series. Not every game has to be a sequel to the previous one. It might be just wishful thinking, but we can still hope.

I've had this conversation with my roommate and I'll share it here:
It's true that Ice Climbers seems to be the only character in Brawl that doesn't have a recent installment.
Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Wario, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Yoshi: appear in most contemporary party and sports games.
Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf, Toon Link: There will be installments of both the "epic" and "toon" styles games on the WiiU.
Samus: The series currently "died" with Other M, but it's still highly relevant.
Pit: Kid Icarus Uprising, one of the best the Nintendo 3DS has to offer.
R.O.B.: Appears every now and then for the older fans, particularly in Pikmin 2 and Mario Kart DS.
Olimar: While he doesn't seem to be in it, Pikmin 3 is in huge demand. I should know, I feel just like a Purple Pikmin.
Kirby, King Dedede, and Meta Knight: All playable characters in Kirby's Return to Dreamland and appear in Kirby's Dream Collection
Marth and Ike (and Roy!): Fire Emblem Awakening. That is all.
Ness and Lucas: Earthbound is finally getting Virtual Console release, which may subsequently motivate localization of Mother 3 (Earthbound 2 as it is dubbed).
Pokemon: I need not say anything.
Fox, Falco, Wolf: 64 3D remake and possibly something with the WiiU control pad
Captain Falcon: F-Zero Climax was released in 2004, which probably makes this series the most overdue.
Sonic: You already know his deal.
Snake: Konami's kept him relevant, as seen with Rising: Revengeance.
Mr. Game and Watch: He's mainly a cameo character nowadays, but it's in the same light as the Hidden Mickeys; it's a cute tribute to their roots.
and Ice Climbers is stuck with Ice Climber and Vs. Ice Climber. Both 1985.
So, what series should be updated next? I'm thinking Nazo no Murasame with a worldwide release; it'd be interesting.

I think the fact that uprising was so popular should be enough to either warrant the KI series another game, maybe for the new 3ds or wiiu. Pit's kind of a icon for nintendo now since it's the closest thing we've gotten to a starfox game since Assault (we dont talk about command...) plus the KI games are just great on their own, so of course there's going to be another game....eventually
