@Anon 5: Well, when pronouncing foreign words in the Japanese language, you can't exactly say it exactly like said word. As such, something like 'Sir Knight' would end up as 'Saanaito'. Though saa naito could also mean 'Come Knight'.
Not to mention the name Gardevoir could mean 'guard' and 'duty', or it could also mean 'to keep' and 'to see'. Referencing the fact that Gardevoir will protect its trainer at the cost of its own life, as well as can see the future.
