Classic Blue was something of a myth. Her first and only appearance was in FR/LG, but that wasnt the original Blue, it was a re-design. While there WAS concept art from the creators of a female option for the trainer in Gen 1, gender selection wasnt available until Crystal. And said concept art of Blue had only her back showing. So Classic Blue is infact non-existant in the games. The missing counter part that only Red remembers. The first time we had a clear image of Classic Blue was in the manga.

on a related note, I'm gonna say that at the start gamefreak thought pokemon would appeal more to boys and then found out that girls also liked the game to they added the girl selection in the third of gen 2. also manga.
