@1415120
Because in some countries, human life is cheap. In the West (mostly) hostages aren't harmed because its treated like a business transaction (ie. don't damage the goods). But in other countries, its common to kill the hostage after the trade (money/guns/prisoners) is made.

Unfortunately, #1368542, people talk tough on the internet but you really can't expect you'd do anything like that IRL. First of all, human empathy prevents most people from taking another's life in revenge, except for psychopaths and sociopaths, and second of all, the very purpose of a hostage situation is to prevent what you're saying. If you try to kill them, they'd kill the hostage, and probably you as well.

Actually, I think 1474610 may be right in some sense, I've heard of those kinds of hostage killings in the news. Also, while it may not be as common in this day and age, go back a few decades or centuries and it may not even be news.

Looking at the amount of damage they've already done to the poor girl, paying the ransom is too late. No way the kidnappers are going to take her to a hospital in time to save her.
Aside form that, paying a ransom is just a bad idea. It simply encourages more kidnappings. A bad idea even where you stand some chance of getting the victim back. Take the money you would pay as ransom and put it up as a reward for the capture of the kidnappers, in many places you could even get away with making it dead or alive.
