No, they just seem to have certain qualities about them that are somehow misunderstood. Every time I see someone bashing a main character, I see where the negative opinion comes from, however, I see the good intentions of the character. I see what kind of person they are. I don't look for something to hate. Try paying attention to the character's personality a bit more.

Animes like these tend to focus on character development, they're not meant to start out as fearless badasses and some people can find something to relate to, they might even find some inspiration to develop their own characters or understand others.
