Gentoo does most of the work for you compared to other source based distributions, and usually prints some detailed stuff when something is wrong.
*BSD require you to do all the work.
Arch with AUR just builds stuff relying on dynamic libs that on a bleeding-edge rolling distro are quickly outdated, randomly breaking stuff after updates.
TL;DR systemd sucks.
