I think the reference is to a glitch when trading pokemon in RBY. You can copy a pokemon you want by sending over a crappy pokemon like Pidgey(Depicted in the picture), for something like say, a Moltres or Charizard, and before the trade ends, the party sending the Pidgey gets to keep the Charizard, while your game decides "Nope" and you have to restart your game. Due to it not saving, you get to keep your awesome pokemon, while having a copy.
