I don't think it has anything to do with their "standards", honestly. I'm no chubby chaser (I'm not even interested in girls, my preference is guys, and not overweight ones, either), but I think it's more that people like what they like.

Some guys like girls with glasses, some guys like girls with big boobs, some guys like ridiculously skinny girls that I could probably snap like a small stack of match sticks. Other guys like women with curves, some like them flat chested, and others like them heavy.

It really could be a matter of preference. Everyone's got something they're attracted to, whether it fits into the norm or not. A single cursory glance around this site and its huge representation of assorted fetishes would tell you that.
