A much more logical confusion is Hinata was spying on the boys(even though her veins aren't present) and noticed Neji was spying on them.

This should be the road to ninja OAV special, when and where Naruto and Sakura (I believe) after a screw up are somehow flung into a sort of parallel world created by Obito as a dry run of his bigger eye of the moon plan... haven't seen it, wasn't planning to see it, but... now I think I will.
