You all have no idea what you're looking at. This is a new form of clean energy. The elf's magic power is absorbed by forcing her senses to a maximum of stimulation, driving her to the edge of madness and having her magic run wild and uncontrolled by it. The resulting lightining is then consumed by the many metal bits. The elf-battery must be exchanged every two or so days, the elfs mana is then dry. This is why you allways have to hunt or breed new elves. You can keep the used ones though, without magic they can't fight you. (Watch out of the damn hero guys, if they slip them a mana potion you're in trouble)
