something tells me that even though it sucks the life out of you, it was very useful in wars in the past, also you can now fight in battle with your pokemon if you wanted

Yeah I imagined you'd have to be extremely stong-willed to wield the Honedge Line pokemon due to it's life sucking powers.

But I bet it's hard to grip Aegislash with a cone as a handle. Upward slash, flings Pokemon in the air. Downward slash, throws Pokemon into the ground. Side slash, tosses Pokemon at potential ally.

A possible workaround for that could be that the Aegislash wraps its "arms" around yours, securing it in place, and allowing you to let go for more complicated attacks due to its sentience.
