I'll be completely honest, maybe I am over-thinking it a little. I'll admit, despite everything I've said I do enjoy this series, I just absolutely despise the "comedy" portion of it.
I can't really enjoy fapping when I don't really like the girl I'm supposed to be fapping to. It may just me be me, but scenes like this make it hard for me to like her, especially during the moments where she's supposedly being played up as attractive.

^ I agree. I may not be attracted to women myself, but I think that if you don't like a particular character that's really central to a particular work, it can make it very difficult to fully appreciate the whole thing.
It's kind of like going on a date with a really attractive person who shares a lot of your interests, only to discover that they also have one of your biggest turn-offs. It can be hard to get past.
Also, I can tell you right now that if there are no characters that appeal to me, and none that I relate to in a particular work, my interest in said work will be short-lived at best.

^ I agree. I may not be attracted to women myself, but I think that if you don't like a particular character that's really central to a particular work, it can make it very difficult to fully appreciate the whole thing.
It's kind of like going on a date with a really attractive person who shares a lot of your interests, only to discover that they also have one of your biggest turn-offs. It can be hard to get past.
Also, I can tell you right now that if there are no characters that appeal to me, and none that I relate to in a particular work, my interest in said work will be short-lived at best.

In Haruko's case, it's mostly just a title since she never acts like a real friend towards anyone that's not female so it feels pointless.
It's hard for me to like her due to scenes like this one and others like it. So during scenes that play up her attractiveness fall flat because of this for me.
I want to like her, it's just difficult due to that abusive part of her.

You make a good point, I'll try watching this episode and episode 2 again with a different mindset and see what happens.
Truthfully, the new animation does wonders for this series, I watched the OVA last October and and even Haruko managed to get me, despite how I felt.
I'll keep watching and maybe I'll come to overlook this part of her and possibly become a fan.
