I dunno if it's just a coincidence or not, but for me, on WinXP with Opera, with the original image showing, when I use the mouse wheel to scroll, the checkered background appears to be stationary while the character floats above it.
In case this is intentional, then it's clever, very clever... Almost like fucking magic!
