Ironically, they planned to write them as childhood frienfs, but rejected the idea in fear of them being percieved as lesbian lovers. So they made them sisters. Sisters who reeeally love each other.

ha, they even have an artificial (and very devoted) "child" of sorts to signify their bond. "do you want to build a snowman" in their circumstances means basically "lets create new life, to become even closer".
