This is a pretty common scenario fans toss around when they talk about "What if Zelda had her own game?" To be completely honest, I fucking hate it.
I'm not opposed to the idea of giving Zelda a game, but here's the thing: the dungeon-diving, bomb-tossing, broadsword-flailing gameplay of the Zelda games we know are reflective of Link as a character, a peasant with a usually-rural background as the chosen champion of the Goddess of Courage. It doesn't really work to just swap Link out for Zelda. Sure, that hypothetical game would still be fun to play, and get review scores of 8, 9 and 10 in the honeymoon hype period of "New Zelda game!", but it would go against who Zelda is as a character.
And Link being a prince is just a fucking stupid concept anyway.
Plus I don't think the lore's ever been unclear about this: the Master Sword is Link's. Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks came up with new, legendary evil-slaying swords, why can't these fan concepts?
Honestly, if Zelda were to get her own game, I think it should be a Fire Emblem clone. Using strategy to lead an army would more true to Zelda's character, plus it would be a good chance for the series to flesh out the world and that supporting cast it's been building up since Link's Awakening.

The Master Sword isn't Link's. The Master Sword chooses who will wield it through its own free will, and it's always someone who completes the trials of courage, wisdom, and power and has proven themselves worthy to it--which has always just happened to have been Link.
I think a spin-off starring Zelda would be cool, but I agree that just having role reversals is a little bland and...unrealistic? That should definitely stay in fanfiction. I think it would be cool playing her as perhaps Sheik (maybe in between the time when Link pulled the Master Sword when he was a child and when he woke up seven years later), or have a different plot explored entirely.
