Use isopropyl alcohol. It evaporates too quickly for corrosion to set in. Once clean, the lack of an electrolyte or potential difference will prevent corrosion. I do this and my 25-year-old cartridge pins are still shiny.
Of course, I believe the contacts where plated with a corrosion resistant metal anyway so it probably doesn't matter.
