I didn't find this out till later but in the prequel Akame ga Kill ZERO, we see that Chelsea has the power to turn into a bird and fly. So her escaping was very possible and the fact she didn't annoys me.

Apparently Kurome did her homework regarding Gaea's key advantage and corresponding disadvantage: It's perfect for sneak attacks, but they only work once. Empire must've done something to her [Kurome's ] bio-structure; made as undead as her familiars.
