^ Not really, since if you say 'no' to a native Japanese speaker, they might think you're talking about a play, or you're using it as a possessive particle.

^even in rural Japan, 'no' in English would be understood. English, even if spoken terribly poorly, is ubiquitous enough that my students run around going 'oh nooo'. This is Korean, though...
