I think Lugia was the first Legendary that showed Legendries might be able to reproduce...

.. .. Even tho they themselves should be the sole member of that type which is what makes them so incredibly rare and legendary to begin with.. Then again this is the anime so perhaps its not even canon.

Anime, expert at non-ncanon pokemon babies...
I can't compute the fact that Ludia, god protector of the oceans, can bread. Next, we'll get a Kyogre baby from the primal god of the sea, or better baby Arceus from the creator god of all things ?

Has it ever been explicitly stated in-game that legendary Pokemon can't breed? The real world reason in probably that the makers of the game didn't want players to have and endless supply of event Pokemon but, is there any real canon non fan theory reason?

The anime just doesn't follow the rules and never had. Remember the movie where there were baby Nidoqueens?

I assume that was because the Nidoqueen that had the babies was a clone and since it was never a Nidoran or Nidorina the baby was born in the final form just like the mother. A Snorlax egg can hatch as either a Snorlax or a Munchlax.

Technically, snorlax/munchlax eggs come from the fact munchlax was introduced later than the breeding system.

Story-wide, it can still be seen as Munchlax being an older evolution process, no longer being the baby form as far as Nature is concerned, though humans still found ways to make it happen again, just like they found ways to resurrect fossils.

But still, Lugia is not just any legendary like, say, Mewtwo would. Lugia is the god guardian of the seas and the leader of the climate bird gods, with generation 1 legendary birds as his subordinates. Since when has a unique god become a breedable species in any lore ? even in polytheist lore, say the greek one for example, a god can breed other bods, but not gods with the same power and responsabilities. Zeus's children are not zeus look-alike with thunder and sky powers.

So yeah i completly agree with anon4, the anime just does not follow any rules of the lore, it does random with the pokemons it wants to use. Maybe we should get our eyes on the manga instead, i've heard it has a slightly more realistic approach (as far as realistic goes with pokemon, anyway) and maybe better understanding of the actual lore...

Lugia being the master of the 3 bird is something the 2nd movie came up with. In terms of legends breeding, what explicitly stated non-fandom theory rule is the anime breaking?

If someone doesn't like the anime that is understandable but at the very least dislike it for it's actual faults and not faults others have made up.

Actually, the games have followed that movie idea since. Why do you think in several games you need the 3 birds to unlock Lugia ? And likewise you need the 3 dogs to unlock Ho-oH, why ?

And don't worry about my reasons for disliking the anime, i have plenty and i all felt then myself. This one is just one that was mentionned here... I do respect those who like the anime, in fact more power to them, but since we were mentionning that flaw i took part in the conversation, nothing more. ;)
