#1255001 is correct. As awful as the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts have been, they haven't killed near as many, on all sides, as were killed in the Vietnam War in less time, and WWII killed more than that. Murder has declined in many countries since the middle of the last century.

But as far as we've come, we've got a long way to go.
