Archetypes, both in personality and in how the character is used in battles, being carried over from one game to the next isn't a new thing to FE.
Gunter for example is an example of a long line of older knight type characters that you start off with that are pre-promotes that have TERRIBLE stat growths.
I actually find it interesting that they decided to literally reincarnate some characters and explain that Inigo, Owain and Severa literally got lost during some world hopping

As I have said a million times now on a million different sites, following the same archetype is DIFFERENT from being the EXACT SAME GODDAMN CHARACTER. Gurei, Matoi, and Shara are complete and utter clones of Gaius, Cordelia, and Tharja, from their appearance, to their personality.
