That means you've never seen the original sailor moon manga the anime is based from. They are even more thin drawn by the original artist/creator. The animators are emulating the original artist's style.

God Crystal was horrible. Not only was the writing and characterization terrible, but they couldn't even draw them properly. The manga's art style really doesn't translate well.
