that game pissed me off. you relied waaaay too much on your GF's. It was more of a GF battle than anything else. The weapon 'upgrades' were lame, you couldn't customize with a variety of different weapons like in FF6 or FF7... it was the same stupid weapon with a different look. - yawn -

Every weapon is the same weapon with a different look. In FF7, Cloud still uses a huge ass sword with a different look. Tifa still uses gloves that sometimes don't even look different.
And I didn't rely on GFs while playing. I usually relied on magic, attacking, and Limit Breaks.

I actually have the game in my PS2 right now; I don't rely on the GF. Its actually a bad idea to do so in the first place; as the game goes on, the more you use them the weaker they get. I use them only as a last resort, and sometimes not even that. Mmm, disk-1 grinding of Tornado and Thundaga from cards.

They get stronger if your character has a good affinity with them. They get weaker if you junction more than 1 to a character (resulting in all of them getting lower because they conflict with each other).
But by the time that happens, you should already be capable of using Magic Junction for some powerful attacks. At that point, it becomes pointless to even consider using them because you essentially do the same damage with the same attack.
