You know what makes this even Sadder? The original "Perfect Reploid" configuration that Colonal was intended to be could not be properly integrated into one body so they had to Divide it into 2 Reploids for the concept to even be possibly Stable One for battle capabilities and the other for Analysis Iris took on Colonals battle programing before the fight which means the conflicting systems began to reject one another right at that moment

Whether Zero won the battle or not... She was doomed to begin with.

^There was no chance of Zero even losing the fight, though. In a sense, that makes it even more sad.

There's no indication in-game of the battle-programming "rejecting" her, and Zero is a merciless fighter.

^ Not in game no, the scene was sad enough as it was but There has been indication through other media about what Anon 2 is saying I looked it up on the Megaman Wiki also,

They even reused this idea in the EXE games that if the programs mixed it would cause an overload, maybe it wasn't instantanious but it's very likely that's what happened since Iris didn't technically explode only the armor did there's no reason her body couldn't have been Reactivated unless it's functions had wiped itself out due to the programs conflicting which is a more believable explanation

and yes Zero did what he had to do and wouldn't have done differently it was his job to do so

^She didn't "explode" upon defeat, no, but she was damaged beyond repair by Zero.

I tend not to take "other media" (manga) seriously when looking at the Rockman [Classic & X series] games. The only trustworthy out-of-game sources are the official Complete Works books.
