I figured Serena took Ash's place because he got sick.

I knew there was gonna be an Ash-gets-sick episode. With how much attention they pay to her crush there really couldn't not be

I can't wait for all these cute moments between them to mean absolutely nothing and Ash moves onto a new chick with a new routine to exploit afterwards.........actually no....just knowing that's going to happen makes me very sad =/.

Did anyone see Ash holding Serena's right hand?

Actually, Kotone/Lyra doesn't fall into this mold as she despite her huge popularity just showed up for a couple of episodes and played cupid for a bit, then just disappeared after a few episodes.

I was both disappointed and relieved. Relieved because she didn't just become one of Ash's girlfriends, (although the writers did try to have her hook up with that ugly glasses guy which was disgusting), but I was disappointed that they didn't make her into a real female rival for him. After Gary, Ash haven't had a real rival at all -- which is odd seeing as how new rivals have been created for pretty much all the Pokemon games... but worse, instead if making use of the male protagonists from the games and making versions of them that Ash could run into -- instead they create these obnoxious disgusting guys that all make me wanna puke. Sure I mean the male protagonists all sort of lack in the character design department... but that was kind of the whole thing, These types of guys would really have added something to the anime.

That said, since I'm not really following the anime... did they ever have Touko or Mei show up in any shape or form? Or did they simply decide not to use them?

The Pokemon anime kind of pisses me off how they simply neglect some awesome characters they could have made use of like Domino or one of the many Team Rocket characters from the games -- so this whole Serena arc is actually somewhat of a breeze of fresh air as it at least hints at the anime moving forward if just a little bit. I mean even if Ash and Serena part ways later -- that doesn't necessarily mean that he dumps her. I mean even if he goes on towards new adventures, they could still have Serena confess to Ash for real and him becoming her boyfriend. Then since they are like 12 years old they would become pokedex-penpalls or something... which would allow As to talk about his girlfriend with whatever new female character he meets up with next.

Also since Red is such a separate character -- it would be cool if they introduced the guy either as Ash long lost father -- or as some sort of almost god status legendary pokemon trainer that Ash has always looked up too. Then keep Red as a character that never appears -- but allow the viewers to know that Ash always wears a cap because he knows that Red did,

What? He's practically anime Silver. No one likes Trip, so there's that, but the gen 6 rivals are the same characters from XY.

Most characters worth two shits in the games already show up in the anime in some way, shape, or form, so no idea what you're talking about there, and there is absolutely no reason at all to bring in *insert random movie villain here*, especially from Team Rocket. They should've been done back in gen 2 or with Brock at the latest.

You seem to forget that the Pokemon anime is largely a commercial aimed primarily at kids who likely couldn't care less about romance. It's also shonen. If it ain't happened in all this time, it won't happen with Serena. Also, they're 10.

Most importantly, Red shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the main anime for any reason ever. He already has the manga. And as far as game Red goes, he is the most overrated thing in the franchise. He lost to Gold/Crystal/Lyra and been outdone by literally everyone to come after him. There's also the fact that Ash IS the anime's version of Red. I could go on(and on and on), but I'll leave it at that.

@leatherhead93 Truth be told, I'd be sad too considering we have about approx 8 months left of AshxSerena, and I'm going to miss that afterward. I'd still ship it though, even after this arc ends.

@#1928928 Relating to Pokemon Sun and Moon in the anime, they haven't announced the female protagonist yet. In the meantime GAMEFREAK is hiding that info from us since they learned from XY, since after XY came out, nobody was surprised.
