Anon 4 : That's because DB was more of a comedy manga for the first few arcs and nothing was supposed to be taken seriously till the Budokai tournament. So we all ended up laughing it off. Not to mention that Goku was just a kid back then and no understanding of even what the difference between a boy and girl was.
But this... It is totally unnecessary and is outright creepy when you think about it.
