I think I get the picture now: she's a priestess who serves a god/dess and gave birth to a son. However, the god/dess she serves accepts ONLY priestesses, and she is too kind to get rid of the child, so she raised him as a girl and planned to possibly (gulp) castrate him in the future if necessary…
