This game had too many loose ends and hints not to get a sequel. Lusamine is not really cured, but is heading to Kanto with Lily to visit Bill. There is a Pokémon League, but no Gyms. Po Town is still in ruins. Aether is now under Gladion's control. Mohn, the Poke Peligo guide, is mentioned in passing several times as being related to Aether, but nothing happens from this.

There are also empty lots in all the towns, where Gyms will probably be built in the future.

I expect a Sun/Moon 2 for the Switch.

If you're being completely literal about the word 'third' that's true but in most contexts including this one it's obvious what is meant by 'third' is 'any kind of same-gen region revisit', so bringing this up is at best pedantic.

^ I agree, but Nintendo is probably cutting their loses and starting everything fresh with the switch. It may be their last console if they don't smarten up quick
