well, the manga got cancelled to make way for new stuff, and it wasn't the only one.
anyway, kubo got an ultimatum : he had 4 chapter to finish his manga.
so he had 2 chapters to finish the fight and 2 chapters for the epilogue of the characters.
so anyone other than the main characters where shoved out.

the light novel confirmed that Urahara and Yoruichi (she sometime teach at the shinigami academy) are well, don't know about the others, i supose they are too.
on a side note, they did this ultimatum because the ranking of the manga was lowering. (which does'nt mean it's a good thing to do, i would have prefered that they leave him the time to properly conclude thing)

Bleach was always a mediocre manga series. Kubo wanted to make the series different in the beginning and Shonen Jump kind of forced him to go into sword fights. He originally wanted to do supernatural detective stuff but there was already a series doing that.
The lack of environments, planning, copy and paste arcs made Bleach to become a really mediocre series. And the final arc and ending were awful.
