Babysit? When have we ever had to babysit Lillie? As far as I know, she had been by herself for the most part of the game, doing her own thing only encountering you from time to time. The only time we really had to "babysit" her was at the very end of the game after the Aether Foundation. Having a pokemon and not leaving the first island doesn't change how much of a great character Lillie was in the game.

Lillie's development in the game was kinda sloppily handled. Her shift to being a more open person happened quite literally overnight. Too sudden to actually work.
Anime Lillie is cute throughout without needing to rely on Ash's existence.

Both versions seem perfectly fine in their own right. Game Lillie's got more potential left in her to (hopefully) be explored in later installments.
Likewise, we've only just scratched the surface of Anime Lillie, since the show has over a hundred episodes to go, and a larger ensemble. Mallow and Lana for example, have far more prominence compared to their counterparts.

ah yes it's not surprising that comment comes from shiftkey, number one pokemon anime hater of gelbooru. and you don't even give the anime a chance.
as far i see,the anime really improves lillie's nature, and as it should be given the anime's knack to add more dimension to game's character. serena being a prime example. just by watching a few episode show us how the show makes its own lillie without distancing herself too much from the game. and that's a solid achievement if u ask me.
