@anon1: I don't think that they're planning on this being used as a way to re-boot the series; it's just an alternate re-telling of Ash's adventure in Kanto. But maybe his traveling companions having a Lucario and Piplup, respectively is hinting at a gen4 remake? Who can really say for sure at this point, though.
