So, what's the current explanation for the overuse of auras? It's even more rampant during combat than in Z, and if I recall, didn't Whis say that these uses as have been shown are actually wasteful and contribute to weakness, not strength? I'm not trying to be an ass. I'm honestly wondering if I missed something, because every battle as the fighters clad in bursting ki all over - to the point it's like everyone is trying to use Kaio-Ken all the time. Is Whis' reasoning no longer valid?

I believe aura pretty much shows how powerful a character is and ki in general is universal to Dragonball as it's a standard way of displaying power.

If I were referring to powering up alone, I'd totally agree with you.

But I mean in battle. Again, Whis has gone on record saying that increasing your ki internally and not outwardly is one of the most basic steps in reaching higher plateaus of power. It was part of his first few lessons.

Now, more than ever in Z, fighters use auras during actual combat, which would then mean they are leaking even more ki than before. Is the show implying that greater ki control internally causes one's body to be wrapped in even more energy? That seems backwards.

As a display over power, sure, using an aura and explosions makes perfect sense. No argument. But if the series is going to show and tell us that this method is actually a negative, doesn't it seem more practically that the idea was introduced and then discarded almost immediately?

I have three thoughts, one is that they actually are leaking power and that'll be touched upon in the future, possibly eliminating auras entirely (which might actually be kinda boring as I like seeing them). Two, they actually have so much power it has to leak out, or it'll cause their bodies to die like some sort of overcharged battery. Three, it's cool and more Dragon Ball to always have auras showing, as I think Dragon Ball has used them far more often than any other anime.

It's also very handy for reading in bed at night.
