Maybe a chance for the former, nay on the later seeing as he lost the only thing he had going for him(Sakurai liking him) with Nintendo being the ones choosing the DLC characters this time.

Yeah, the characters have already been chosen. I expect a reveal to come soon, as they pointed out they're not comfortable having a season pass on sale without showing what they're selling.
