To be fair he gave us the context for the Izanami Izanagi story for those who didn't already know.

On another note this is one of the few times that I've liked a fanon ending more than the original.

Edogawa always talks about things related to the games main story. In P3 he teaches you about the tarot arcanas. In P4 he teaches you about Izanagi and Izanami. Not everyone who played the games knew everything about all of those subjects when they played. He was a neccessary character.
