didn't Aquarius die/cease to exist when lucy summoned the celestial king? Now I'm tempted to actually watch season 3 to know what the hell is going on.

It works like Devil fruit. When the key breaks a new aquarius key comes in to existence but it can be anywhere in the world. Brandish just used magic to bypass the key summoning.
