I’m gonna go out on a limb and say she’s not very popular in Japan. The amount of porn and lewd drawings of her aren’t really showing the love despite her being a somewhat iconic and relevant female figure in gaming.

Would probably say its simply because in Japan, Lara isn't at all unique. Artists there pop out sexy chicks on a daily basis whereas in US, maybe once every 4-5 months (ya, have no way to support this whatsoever but) Its like..for every Lara Croft made over here...30 ..I dunno..Tifas..are made over there. (Not saying Lara's not hot, over there she just has a lot more competition.)
