I know Cloud and Tifa are the real thing and that there’s some real tension and history with them. But him and Aerith were just cute and fun together. Her and those flowers plus her healing really gave a feeling of light and warmth. She was like a nice Spring after a long and harsh winter.

Contrary to popular belief, Tifa and Cloud weren't actually close at all when they were kids. In fact, she shunned him for much of his time in Nibelheim. Every boy in town had a crush on her and he was one of her many admirers, that's it. There's no "real tension and history" between them except being old acquaintances. Cloud's messed up memories just made him confused and recalled things differently, but the truth eventually becomes clear.

Tifa didnt shun him, he shunned himself because he didnt like her friends. He did try and save her when they were younger and there was the promise they made at the water tower and when sephiroth attacked nibelheim cloud got angry when tifa was hurt and she was happy he kept his pr9mise and came to help her. There was definitely history there

Tifa herself admits later on that she barely paid Cloud any attention up until that promise by the water tower. He crushed on her then, sure, but it's not on some knee-deep "soulmates level" as many like to think.
