Switched it to the GBA translation. Ted Woolsey's version is utter garbage, and Square Enix wouldn't have changed it if they didn't wholeheartedly agree.

No. I've compared the two translations, and the Woolsey version really is shit. Was he good at getting RPGs localized at the time? Absolutely. Was he good at staying faithful to the original text? Absolutely not.
