Anybody following that advice will have a hard time reading your advice :P
English wasn't confusing until it ended up picking up words from Latin, French and whatever. The real issue (with most languages) is the foreign introduced words, which fails to honour the rules of the language.
Easy or hard, I guess people should still learn it. It's not like it's an acceptable solution in Japan not to learn Kanji, just because you think it's hard.

and considering that English is actually BASED off of Latin with Anglo-Saxon influences its no surprise that we share many words with the other language (so were German France Spanish and many other languages they simply had different influences instead of Anglo-Saxon)
