Okay, maybe I'm seeing this wrong, but...

It seems like her arm is resting above his ear, but part of her forearm up to her wrist is under the ear. Is she sticking her arm through his ear?

no, it's that his ear is split into two seperate flaps(thats how bangaa ears are IIRC) her arm is going inbetween those two flaps and under the second one

I wish the skin tones weren't so close so it'd be easier to tell
