Poison is not 100% man OR woman. Take from that what you will. And I've heard that false ass claim about them changing her because it was not alright to hit a woman so man times it makes me want to throw my monitor out the window. Poison, even in the concept art, has always been designated as "newhalf". Look it up, since it's on this very site.
It's the pencil drawing with her and Roxy, and below it in katakana it says newhalf. Deal with the facts, not FUD.

Actually, Final Fight DID draw negative attention from American feminist groups, which ultimately led to the gender controversy surrounding Poison. She was ultimately excluded from the original US release altogether, and was replaced by a male character named Sid.
Regarding her gender, SFIV producer Ono Yoshinori has said, "Let's set the record straight: in North America, Poison is officially a post-op transsexual. But in Japan, she simply tucks her business away to look female." Nin-Nin san (one of the creators of Final Fight) has always maintained that Poison's gender is ambiguous, but also admitted that she could be a genetic male and that it's ultimately up to the player to decide.
In SF X TEKKEN, there are a few close up shots of her groin area which show off a rather conspicuous bulge between her legs (a feature that none of the female characters have).
