Red was Obviously designed after Ash, sure they may seem different but Ash never shows up in the Gameboy games, so he's still the best Ash-like character in the Gameboy games. saying they are 2 different characters is true but they were designed to be practically the same.

The game came out first, followed by the TV show. The manga are based on the games, or occasionally on the anime.
